Tense

A tense is simply when the action happened. In Latin, you have 6 tenses. Many times you will see the tenses broken down into Present and Perfect systems, this correlates to which principal part the tense is formed from. These are the following tenses

Present Tense


Present action; happening now, translated "I ____"

I eat, I drink, I sleep, I die

Imperfect Tense


-Action of the past, translated "was ___ing, kept on ___ing"

I was eating, I was drinking, I was sleeping, I was dying

Perfect Tense


Completed action, in the past. Translated "I ___ed"

I ate, I drank, I slept, I died

Future Tense


an action that will happen in the future, translated "I will ____"

I will eat, I will drink, I will sleep, I will die

Pluperfect Tense or Past Perfect


-Action in the past, used alot to describe an action farther in the past than another, translated "had ____ed"

I had ate, I had drank, I had slept, I had died

Future Perfect


-Action that will be done after another action has occured, translated "I will have ____ed"

I will have ate, I will have slept, I will have drank, I will have died
